It’s time to support the BIO (Block Illegal Ownership) Bill, SB 1966 to fix the FOID system in Illinois

Today I am writing to you as an Illinois voter asking you to take action to address the epidemic of gun violence that plagues our state, taking lives and tearing apart communities. Please help save lives in Illinois by publicly supporting SB1966, The BIO BIll, and committing to sign this piece of life-saving legislation into law.

I appreciate all you have done to make Illinois a safer place to live. Signing into law the Firearm Dealer Licensing Certification Act in 2019 was an important step in addressing the epidemic of gun violence that plagues communities across Illinois – but there’s still more work to be done.

As communities across Illinois are dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, gun violence continues to threaten our everyday safety and destroy lives. Under orders to “stay at home” gun violence is up 6% while unintentional shootings increase, and the rate of calls to domestic violence and suicide hotlines continues to grow. The combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and the gun violence epidemic is a disaster, which will only get worse in the summer months. As temperatures spike, so too will gun violence.

It is now more important than ever that ALL gun sales come with strong background checks. SB 1966, the BIO Bill, expands background checks to include all gun sales, making sure guns don’t end up in the wrong hands.

During these unprecedented times, I am asking you to prioritize the safety of communities across Illinois by helping put a stop to preventable gun violence tragedies.

Please, join the gun safety majority across our state by supporting SB1966, The BIO BIll, and committing to sign this piece of life-saving legislation into law.
