Together we can #FixTheFOID

Today I am joining countless gun safety advocates across Illinois in a Digital Day of Action to #EndGunViolenceIL. I am writing to urge you to take action to help end gun violence here in Illinois by supporting and calling for a vote on SB 1966, the BIO (Block Illegal Ownership) Bill.

In the midst of this pandemic, there has been a significant increase in gun sales across our state. While background checks are mandated at licensed brick and mortar gun stores, they are NOT required for private sales. Many of the weapons people are panic-buying today will likely end up getting resold and background checks won’t be required

Not mandating background checks on ALL gun sales creates loopholes that allow dangerous people to buy guns. This puts communities across Illinois in danger. With this alarming increase in gun ownership, it is now more important than ever that ALL gun sales come with strong background checks. SB 1966, the BIO Bill, expands background checks to include all gun sales, making sure guns don’t end up in the wrong hands.

During these unprecedented times, I am asking you to prioritize the safety of our communities across Illinois by helping put a stop to preventable gun violence tragedies in Illinois and passing The BIO Bill (SB 1966).

Please, join the gun safety majority across our state by passing this life-saving legislation.
