STATEMENT FROM GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION PAC ILLINOIS ON TRAGIC MASS SHOOTINGS AT BOWLING ALLEY AND RESTAURANT IN LEWISTON, MAINE
CHICAGO – Today, Gun Violence Prevention PAC Illinois (G-PAC), the state’s leading gun safety organization, released a statement responding to the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, that killed at least 18 people and injured dozens more. According to the Gun Violence Archive, this is the 565th mass shooting in the United States this year.
“Last night, another U.S. community was terrorized by gun violence. We send our condolences to the victims’ families reeling from this unimaginable trauma — their lives will never be the same.
“The toll of gun violence in this country is unspeakable. We are tired. Weapons of war do not belong in our streets. We cannot accept that gun violence remains the country’s leading cause of death of children and teens. We cannot ignore the dangers people experience living their everyday lives — going to the movies, taking their children to school, shopping for groceries, and in this case, eating at a restaurant and spending time bowling. No more blood can spill before action is taken and the gun lobby is finally held accountable for the horror they inflict on society.
“G-PAC remains dedicated to keeping our children and communities safe from gun violence. We will not rest until all communities in Illinois and around the country can live free from this preventable epidemic.”
Kathleen Sances, the CEO of Gun Violence Prevention PAC, is available for media interviews. Please email [email protected] for her availability.
