G-PAC STATEMENT ON POTENTIAL NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT

CHICAGO — The Gun Violence Prevention PAC (G-PAC) of Illinois, the state’s leading gun violence prevention organization, today issued the following statement in response to reports of potential deployment of the National Guard to Chicago.

“As our elected leaders have said, Chicago’s gun violence problem is directly related to the availability of illegal guns in our communities,” said Kathleen Sances, G-PAC President and CEO. “Illinois’ significant progress in passing common sense gun laws to prevent access to illegal weapons has helped reduce crime, but without meaningful reform at the federal level, guns will cross our borders and violence will persist. If the White House wants to get serious about violence, it can start by supporting gun safety instead of the gun lobby.”

A few starting points:

  • Background checks on all gun sales, including gun shows,
  • Funding violence intervention and mental health services, and
  • Banning weapons of war and machine gun conversion devices.

Founded in 2013 by gun violence survivors, G-PAC is committed to ending the gun violence epidemic by supporting the passage of a responsible, common sense gun safety agenda focused on illegal guns and gun trafficking. Learn more about G-PAC: https://gpacillinois.com/.
